Psi Eta Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority Inc
Long Beach, California -- Nov 28, 2005 -- Psi Eta Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority Inc. was chartered in Long Beach, California in 1991. Since that time the sorority has sponsored numerous community service events. Health fairs, community education series hosted at local senior centers, donations to homeless shelters, and other events have become their hallmark. Members are all registered nurses from Long Beach and surrounding areas. The group recently sponsored the establishment of a Village of Mentors designed to support African-American nursing students and registered nurses in leadership positions. The inaugural meeting was held at California State University, Dominguez Hills, California. In addition to Psi Eta Chapter members, attendees included Joan Craigwell RN,MSN, retired nurse administrator/Educator,Carlsbad, California; Dr. Bonnie Kellogg RN, CSULB; Dr. Patricia Harvard RN, CSUDH; Elcedo Bradley RN, MSN , King-Drew Medical Center; Desiree Elleby - High School Student, Lakewood, California; Nnenna Ohaleta RN, PhD(c), CSULB; Gina Newton B.A., M.ed, Principal-Ninth Grade Campus.Van Nuys, California; and Dr. Laura Inouye RN, CSUDH. One of the exciting projects resulting from this meeting included assisting Faith-based Organizations/groups, counselors, to develop a support network/Village to stand behind persons from underrepresented groups enrolled in/applying to nursing programs, interested high school students, and nurses aspiring to leadership positions.
